cooler but the dry and sunny days still make Hanoians feel awkward. It’s
the time to cool yourself down with a cup of Nuoc mia tran chau (sugar cane juice with pearls) in Hanoi Old Quarter.

been a favorite treat for many people in Hanoi. As a habit, locals who
live in Old quarter always come to Hang Vai Street to enjoy this juice
now and then. Thanks to its quiet location, cane juice in Hang Vai,
which has simple flavor still attracts many customers. Youngsters would
like to come here with their friends to drink together and have some
chit chat.
In recent years, mixed beverage has
become the hottest trend in Vietnamese youth community. Hang Vai is the
most popular place for Nuoc mia tran chau – newest mixed drink in Hanoi. All food shops here serve this drink
to their customers. Look around Hanoi youngster’s facebook new feeds,
you might see some check-in photos with hashtag #Nuoc mia tran chau as
the hottest trend among Hanoi youngsters. This treat is inspired from
Tra sua tran chau (Milk tea with pearls or Bubble milk tea). Sugar cane
juice is now added with black pearls, julienne of coconut and dried
coconut. From that, you can feel multifarious flavors of this drink
including cool and light sweet sugar cane juice, crunchy coconut and
swishy pearl. Not only having an amazing taste, it also looks so
attractive. Its appearance is quite like coconut frappe or lemon snow.
The green sugar cane juice, white coconut and black pearl create 3 color
layers of this drink.
Comparing with other popular drinks, the
price of sugar cane juice with pearls is much cheaper (only 12,000 VND
for a cup). During these hot days, this drink is sold well. Sometimes,
you have to take away.
